Types of Thread Protectors for Oil Industry

Demand for oilfield equipment has been at an all time high since the global demand for the oil has increased. The rise in the world population is also putting pressure on these non renewable resources to meet the growing needs of the population. The surge in the demand for oil and natural gas has also witnessed a steep rise in the prices of not just the end products but also the components that are used in the making of these products. Due to this increase in price, the investment in the field of exploration has also seen an unprecedented growth.

In the oilfield equipment, thread protectors play a very crucial role. They are supposed to protect the pipes during the process of exploration and transportation. The main job of the protectors is to protect the threaded region from any damage while the pipes are being loaded, unloaded, stored or transported. The threaded parts of the pipe need to be sheltered from any damage such as corrosion, crash or contact with impurities. There are two types of materials used for the making of these pipes – steel threads and plastic threads.

In order to protect the threaded portion of the pipes that are used in the oilfield equipments, the protective coverings can be applied either manually or by using machines. The main reason why many thread protectors suppliers suggest using the metal protectors is because of their ability to be reused after cleaning. However, the plastic thread protectors first need to be collected and then recycled so that they can be reused.

During oil exploration, one can use plastic protectors that are capable of withstanding rough ambient and handling conditions which are caused during the transportation process. This protects the threads from any corrosion or physical impact. Plastic protectors are lightweight which brings down the cost of transportation significantly and makes them more economical. Since they can also be recycled and used again, their overall effectiveness in the long run increases exponentially.

However, the metal protectors are still the more preferred choice for many buyers because they are designed in such a way that they cover the entire threaded portion of the pipe, thereby sealing internal and external threads. This eliminates any possibilities of contact with the contaminants or moisture. They are able to perform exceptionally well, even in the harshest weather conditions. They can also be reused by simply cleaning which is a less tedious process than the plastic collectors.

Another type of protector that is used in the oilfield equipment is the composite thread protector. These protectors are capable of providing the combined strengths of steel and plastic protectors, that is, corrosion resistance of plastic and impact resistance of steel. They are also designed to cover the pipe threads in entirety which offers security against damages from impact.

There is also another variant called the tubular handling systems that are used while transportation of process of oil exploration. Due to their high density packing, they are more suited for storage and transportation.

Pipe Chocks: Protection For The Protectors

Are your pipes not working like they used to when they were first installed?  The main reason why older pipes have been known to fail is because before it was not common knowledge to protect your pipes.  Most pipe sellers were not familiar with what exactly happens to a pipe once it has been installed and put in place.  They did not know just how much the weather plays a big part in affecting the pipes.  Therefore, you must be careful when you purchase pipes for installation.  Just choosing a size, irregardless of its quality, is not wise.  It is always best to do your homework before purchasing new pipes. Special attention to details, its requirements, and any sales,  is a great way to match your products.  If you are going to be laying drill pipes, buying drill pipe protectors is a great investment.   If you are going to lay pipes in a more extreme environment, then you may want to buy protectors that are built to withstand such conditions.  It is absolutely essential that you buy only those that will suit your purpose. Any other kind may be a wasted expense in the long run.

Many manufacturers do not make pipes to last long, and sometimes, they fail to deliver the pipes to you correctly. In most cases the pipes are damaged before they are even delivered to the location to be installed.  If you were on a pre-determined plan to install and set up a new piping system, then these transit damages can turn your plans upside down. There is one way by which you can prevent such an event from ever occurring and that is to make sure that you get your pipe protectors from a reliable source. There are several pipe manufacturers that make use of pipe chocks in their delivery process. This ensures that all of your purchases are protected from transit risks. They will arrive at your requested location free of breakages or anything else of the kind. These manufacturers are usually the ones that sell their products through an online portal. They set up websites to help customers find rare types of protection for their pipes that may have otherwise been extremely difficult to find.

Any kind of drill pipe protector you want to purchase, you will find them on various websites. Their features along with a picture of them are displayed on their site. You are free to research and compare different types before you settle on one type to buy. The site helps you buy in bulk and also provides safe delivery of the products.  You can even request for removal and installation of the pipes and its protection if you have no other way to do it.  For all of these products and services, you will be charged fairly and reasonably, which will surely have you coming back for more!

Wrap The Entire Connection Area Using Composite Thread Protectors!

Machineries and heavy equipment play a major role in the oil industry. The large pipes and machines used for taking oil from large wells are to be manufactured with utmost care and the quality should never be compromised. But what is the use when you manufacture machines and equipment without considering the factor of protecting them throughout the shipping and assembly? The oilfield thread protectors are the one of the top solutions to this problem. In the last few years there have been continuous research on the factors that affect the oil and gas industry. All the research is aimed at obtaining a proper and accurate solution, however the basic and foremost in the protection of oil and gas is to make sure that the tools, pipes and machineries used during the drilling process are perfect and does not possess any quality issues.

Thread protectors play a vital role in the suction of oil from the well and this is because when the pipe threads are protected they are not exposed to minute dust particles, UV rays and other factors that affect the thread size. Only when the thread sizes are accurate they can then be fixed with the other pipes. A minor mistake in the thread size affects the whole system. Composite thread protectors are used for protecting the connectors. It will prevent water, dust and any other corrosion agent that could disturb the nature of the pipe thread. These three factors are the major issues for the performance of the pipes. Also while shipping, the pipes may be exposed to sunlight and UV rays that are emitted by the sun, which can then react chemically with the material with which the pipe is manufactured. Therefore, to protect the tubular thread ends, it is necessary to install protectors.

When the thread protectors are perfect and accurate, they will never loosen during transportation. The materials used are high density poly-ethylene which helps in absorbing shock on the pipe and ensure a superior protection. Natural disasters and extreme weather conditions are also another factor affecting the quality of the pipes during transport. When the high density polyethylene is used, there are a lot of advantages. The high density polyethylene plays an important role in its moisture resistance.

High density Polyethylene, also known as HDPE, withstands temperature from -40C to 90C, an ideal temperature range necessary for protecting the pipe thread from the sunlight. Also this material does not react to any chemical reaction and on the flip side, it does not allow the pipe thread to chemically react. Therefore one need not worry about the change in the size of pipe threads during the assembling of the equipment. This low cost and ready to be used HDPE material, is the most used by many manufactures. They are routinely tested and supplied for consistent performance. Drill pipe protectors from good companies always have a better chance for protecting your equipment.
